Satyamuna - Food For The Soul
Vegetarian Mediterranean cuisine
Satyamuna is a combination our
spiritual names: Satyananda (Ofer) and
Yamuna (Giuliana).
Satya (in Sanskrit, an
ancient Indian language) means truth and
Yamuna is a name of a holy river in India.
After falling in love with St. John on their
honeymoon, Giuliana and Ofer decided to
live out their dream and open up their own
place, serving the local community and
tourists with a tasty, healthy and
nutritious food.
Giuliana spent her childhood in Sicily
and came to the US, New York, at the
age of 11. She studied art and fashion
design and worked in the fashion
industry for years until she decided to
pursue other interests, like acting and
yoga.
After becoming a yoga instructor she
started to teach private and group
classes in New York and became more
interested in holistic practices and
healthy cooking.
Growing up she was surrounded by the
aromas and  flavors of the Italian
kitchen, with her mother Norina as the
teacher and inspiration.
Today, she loves to experiment and
cook with her husband to create an
interesting mix of healthy
Mediterranean dishes.
Ofer Elyakim was born and raised in
Israel. He was born with the passion for
cooking and used to make a mess in his
mom's kitchen. He worked in several
restaurants in Israel in different
positions as well as in other jobs in a
computer company, FedEx, and as a
Yoga instructor.
In 2003 he came to California and ran
the kitchen of a Yoga ashram retreat in
Grass Valley for over a year. He taught
few cooking courses of
Indian-Ayurvedic cooking in the retreat
and in Israel. He spent the last 2 years
in Boston and New York giving services
to commercial refrigeration in
restaurant and is very happy to move
back to the chef-owner position in
"Satyamuna" St. John.
